Showstopping bakes raises £335 for Cleft Lip and Palate Association
When it comes to classic fundraising, you can’t go wrong with a bake sale and afternoon tea treat. Karen Bush recently did just this, raising £335 for the Cleft Lip and Palate Association (CLAPA).
Karen got creative in the kitchen for CLAPA as her grandson, Joshua, was born with cleft lip and palate in November 2023.
Speaking on her inspiration behind the bake sale, Karen said, “Joshua’s parents, my son and daughter-in-law, have received invaluable support from the CLAPA, helping them come to terms with the diagnosis at their 20-week scan. From feeding complications, stress and worries about forthcoming operations and support in general, CLAPA has been there.”

Karen and her family have attended CLAPA’s online events for parents and grandparents. The groups help to connect families and allow members to share experiences and find support.
When deciding on her fundraising efforts, Karen chose Easter Sunday as the perfect time for a sweet treat and got baking. She said, “I was really nervous about arranging a fundraiser, but luckily, I know a number of people who, like myself, enjoy baking cakes.”
“My grandson was at the event, so all my friends and family got to meet him”.
Karen contacted the Fundraising Team at CLAPA and was provided with materials to help promote and run the bake sale. “Set yourself a theme and a date, contact the charity and get the resources you need and GO FOR IT. I was amazed by the kindness, support and generosity of my friends and family.” She said.
Thank you to our Star Baker, Karen, for raising £335, and a further £175 through a Facebook Birthday Fundraiser.
