New Research Opportunity

May 30, 2024

Staffordshire University Research Opportunity: Empowering young people with cleft (aged 16-25 years) to feel confident about their appearance and sharing their image with others.

About the Project:

The researchers for this project will use a research method called PhotoVoice (This is research that utilises photographs taken and selected by participants.  Respondents can reflect upon and explore the reasons, emotions and experiences that have guided their chosen images.)

The research involves young people with cleft as ‘co-researchers’ and looks to improve understanding of how young people with cleft feel about their appearance, and the barriers they face in achieving a positive self-image.

The co-researchers (young people) will take part in a workshop that supports them to take self-images, over a timescale of five weeks.

These images, along with short written accounts of their meaning, will be shared with the group. Together with other co-researchers, they will work collaboratively to identify common thoughts and experiences as themes. These themes will be used to produce a video to be shared with clinicians and other young people with cleft.
