New Research Opportunity
University of Plymouth Research Opportunity: Investigate the experience of transitioning from paediatric to adult services for patients with long term health conditions, focusing on the shared decision making process.
About the Project:
“My name is Elena Charlesworth and I am a final year BSc Psychology student at the University of Plymouth. I recently completed a placement year with the University Hosptial’s Plymouth NHS Trust working within Acute Paediatric Psychology. During the year I worked closely with the Cleft Lip and Palate MDT and the South West Cleft Service.
As I go into my final year I wanted to use some of the knowledge and experiences I gained from my placement to inspire my dissertation.
The aim of my project is to investigate the experience of transitioning from paediatric to adult services for patients with long term health conditions, focusing on the shared decision making process. We will also explore the role of support during this time, and how it varies for different long term health conditions.
It would be great to hear the perspectives of young people with a cleft lip and/ or palate. Participation includes a short, online, 1:1 interview with myself.
The main benefit of taking part in this research is that we aim to make recommendations on ways to improve transitioning between the services and shared decision making for young people with long term health conditions.”
