Leave a gift in your will

Thank you for considering remembering CLAPA in your will

A gift in a will is when a person generously decides to give to us at the end of their lives, with the gift usually outlined in their will.

Leaving CLAPA a gift in your will is a wonderful and powerful gesture, allowing you to continue to help the Cleft community even after you are no longer here.

By leaving a gift in your will,  you can ensure CLAPA is there from the moment of diagnosis with reassuranceinformation, and a welcoming community for families, children and adults born with a cleft. Our purpose is to make sure no one affected by cleft in the UK goes through their journey alone.

What a special gift that would be.

A gift in your will

Remembering CLAPA in your Will can help us plan for the future, and allows us to support the three babies born with a cleft every day in the UK plan for their future too.

After you have taken care of your loved ones, leaving a gift to CLAPA is an amazing way to support our work, and helps ensure that we can continue support, connect and empower everyone affected by cleft in the United Kingdom. You don’t have to give a lot to make an amazing difference, even 1% can be left to CLAPA in a Will so those closest to our heart receive 99%.

Plus, legacy gifts left to charity are free from inheritance tax.

Gift Options

By leaving a gift in your will to CLAPA, you will support a cause that has been important in your life and allowing you to continue to help the Cleft community even after you are no longer here.  The three simplest types of gifts to leave in your Will are:

A percentage of your estate

This is a percentage of your estate after all other gifts and expenses have been paid. Once you have ensured you’ve looked after your loved ones, a small gift of even 1% of your estate could completely transform the lives of people affected by cleft .

A specific cash sum

This is a pecuniary gift. A gift of a set amount that feels comfortable for you will help us provide support.

An item of value

This is a specific gift. An item such as property, jewellery, or art can make an exceptional difference to our work. Please get in touch with us; we would be pleased to learn more about your plans.

How do I remember CLAPA in my will?

You can make a gift in your will to CLAPA by contacting a solicitor. If you do not have one, you can find one on the Law Society’s website.

Once you have chosen the gift you would like to leave to CLAPA, simply contact your solicitor or other will-writing professional and tell them the details of your gift.

They will need to know:
Our charity name: Cleft Lip & Plate Association (CLAPA)
Our registered address: CLAPA, The Green House, 244-254 Cambridge Heath Road, LONDON, E2 9DA.
Our registered charity number: 1108160

“My name is Jon and I was born with a bilateral cleft lip and palate in 1975. My parents were very involved in CLAPA in the early days when it was run entirely by volunteers, and my mother was also involved in NAWCH (National Association for the Welfare of Children in Hospital). We have been impressed to see how CLAPA has developed over the decades and the extensive work that it now undertakes through its mission to improve the lives of people born with a cleft and their families in the UK.

Both of my parents were hugely supportive of me through my cleft journey and made it very clear that having a cleft was no barrier to achieving whatever goals I have in life, a philosophy that I have held close. I have been involved with CLAPA myself since 2010, first in CLAPA’s “Adult Voices” and latterly as a Peer Supporter.

Sadly my father passed away in December 2022, eighteen months after he was diagnosed with Alzheimers Dementia. He was always very keen to support charities close to his heart, and in particular those which have touched our lives as a family. As such, my mother and I were very pleased to learn that he had decided to leave a gift to CLAPA in his will.

I’m sure CLAPA will join me in strongly encouraging other families affected by cleft lip and/or palate to consider leaving a gift in their will to CLAPA, to support its work in the future.
