Becky and George’s Story

June 11, 2018

This Spring, Becky and George welcomed their wonderful daughter to the world. Becky got in touch to share their story so far with CLAPA.

My name is Becky and my partner’s name is George. In April this year, after 7 hours of labour, I gave birth to our beautiful baby girl, Lottie Hope. She was born weighing 6lb 7oz and was able to lay on my chest for a lovely length of time. George was also able to hold her straight away too in the same way.

Our beautiful Lottie was diagnosed with a bilateral cleft lip and palate at our 20 week scan. This was a huge shock for both me and George, as this wasn’t something we ever thought about or expected to hear. From that day on, we received loads of support and help from family and friends, and also from CLAPA through all the information they share and through other families’ experiences and stories.

One the day she arrived, the necessary checks were done for her, then she was then taken to intensive care. My partner wheeled our little girl all the way and soon she was being fed her first feed through a tube (helped by George) while we waited for cleft team to arrive to see which bottles Lottie would need.

We were surprised that she took so well to the Dr Browns bottles and teats. Lottie is able to suck on her own, with just a little bit of support from her mummy and daddy!

We arrived home from the hospital at the beginning of May this year, and she is doing amazingly.

For me and George, it helps to know that if we have any concerns we can ask the team at Broomfield Hospital. They have been amazing with us and are willing to help in any way possible (as are our midwife and health visitor).

You are never alone and there is loads of support out there to help you through the journey ahead.

All the stories that people share through CLAPA really helped me and George come to terms with what we were facing while we waited for our little girl to arrive. We can now start to share our story with other couples and families who are going through what we were and those who are experiencing the same journey we have ahead now.

Our little lady is beautiful in every single way and, even though we have only just started our next chapter, we wouldn’t change Lottie for the world.

We can’t wait to update you all on her progress in the year ahead!

Thanks so much to Becky and George for getting in touch to share their wonderful story. If you’d like to share your story you can share it here through our website.
