Chirk To Llangollen Sponsored Walk
When Lorna Beeke’s sister found out that her baby would be born with a cleft lip and palate, the family pulled together to organise and participate in various fundraising activities for CLAPA.
Lorna Beeke organised a sponsored walk for friend and family over the bank holiday weekend to raise money for CLAPA. The event involved walking from Chirk to Llangollen in Wales along the Llangollen Canal Path- the total distance being an impressive 8 miles. 15 people took part in the walk, and a few family members decided to pop along for parts of the walk to show their support. “It was a lovely sunny day” says Lorna “there were excellent views along the walk and the event was enjoyed by all (even though one or two were a bit achey by the end).” So far the walk has raised a fantastic £920, with a few more donations on the way!
Lorna’s work also got involved with fundraising for CLAPA by organsing a dress down day and raffle. In total they raised £432.62. Not only did this event raise money it also raised awareness. A lady in Lorna’s office got in contact with her to say that her daughter (who is now 24) was born with a cleft lip and palate.
Lorna’s friends have been very generous, the money raised from collection tins totalled to £74.26 and Brymbo & Coedpoeth Slimming World donated £63.
Lorna’s brother in law, Gavin Godfrey, chose a more intense and adrenaline fuelled way to raise money for CLAPA and signed up for a Tough Mudder. Him and his team will be doing the event in Yorkshire later this month.
Faith Olivia arrived 23rd August (just before the sponsored walk) and her family are already planning the next CLAPA fundraiser, a charity night with a local band and DJ.
CLAPA would like to say a big thank you to Lorna and her friends and family for raising such a brilliant amount for CLAPA.
