#FundraisingFriday: Dan’s Fundraising Story
Dan and his wife Sophie decided to fundraise for CLAPA after seeing the difference our support made to them when their son Ethan was born with a cleft palate. We caught up with Dan to hear about their lovely fundraising efforts.
What inspired you to fundraise for CLAPA?
Our son Ethan was born via IVF in November 2021. The day following his birth the nurses on the maternity ward noticed that he had a soft cleft palate. Initially, my wife Sophie and I were in shock but the speed of response by the medical staff ensured that the specialist team from Nottingham attended the following day. They provided us with support and advice on the next steps, and the support network available which introduced us to CLAPA.
What did you do to fundraise for CLAPA ?
On reading up on the charity it was clear to see the impact they have on supporting and championing children and their families who had a cleft, so it was such a pleasure to help. Auto Windscreens who we both work for have a large contact centre in Chesterfield and we were having some fun things for all our staff around Valentine’s day. So to make it more worthwhile we linked it to a charity day, with CLAPA being one of the charities we are looking to raise money for. The day included cake and sweets sales, a raffle with two large hampers up for grabs along with other smaller prizes.

How was your fundraising experience?
We do a lot of charity work within the organisation and we always look to help charities that directly affect one of our team members and their families. Hearing that they had chosen CLAPA due to Ethan was such a joy to hear.
What would you say to anyone else who would like to fundraise for CLAPA?
No matter how big or small go for it! Every single penny will make an impact for a family.
Thank you for supporting CLAPA, Dan!
