Stavroulla and Matthew’s Wedding
A big thank you and congratulations to our volunteer Stavroulla and husband Matthew, who got married in July.
They asked for donations raising over £1,389 for CLAPA. Each guest was given a CLAPA pin as a wedding favour!
Here is their fundraising story. ‘Many moons ago, in the early 90s, the bride Stavroulla, was born with a Bilateral Cleft Lip and Palate . She was the first of her generation in her Greek Cypriot family, to parents who were unfamiliar with the condition until she came along.
CLAPA was introduced to a family who needed help with their firstborn at a very worrying time. The charity helped her parents by providing special baby bottles to feed a child without a palate and giving positive advice.
They provided a shoulder to lean on during the many hours of waiting while their child went into surgeries year in, year out.
This also created a community for Stavroulla. From her early years through to her later years as an active volunteer.
She even met one of her bridesmaids through the wonderful charity, who is now a very close friend.
The importance of meeting someone who has gone through a similar experience to you is invaluable. This is merely one of the many reasons why CLAPA is an integral small charity for children and adults born with a Cleft.’
If you have a wedding or other celebration, please consider forgoing gifts and accepting donations for CLAPA.
