Superhero Fun Day
Families from the South West region were invited to Salisbury Art Centre on 30th March 2014 to enjoy a ‘Super Hero Family Fun Day’ with The Spires Cleft Centre. Lotte Heath, aged 7, was our journalist. This is what she wrote:
“After we had a story, we looked at everyone’s super-powers!
Super Owl had to be rescued from flying round the world.
Everyone had to pick a cape colour. We also had to think of a super-hero name. Lastly, we had to pick a super-power!
We challenged Hercules by doing ballet moves, and poor Hercules lost!”
Lotte then interviewed Hercules, also known as actor, Mark Bishop.
Interview with Hercules
Question 1: Can you describe your 3 labours?
Answer: a) screaming like a girl
b) ballet
c) making a face like Hulk
Question 2: What were your favourite challenges?
Answer: Doing the Limbo, then ballet dancing and making a hulk face
Question 3: Has this been your most challenging time?
Answer: Yes. I always lost today.
Then Lotte interviewed lots of the children. Their favourite activities included mask-making, challenging Hercules, making pottery figures, and creating super-hero costumes.
Everyone really enjoyed the day. Children, mums, dads and grandparents were all involved with song-writing, creating Super Hero costumes, and designing their own characters for a short, animated film. There was some exciting story-telling with ‘Welly Woman’ (local story teller, Lulu Stevens). We nearly lost Super Owl when he was thrown heroically high and disappeared from view on his epic journey around the world. Luckily, a brave technician from the Art Centre was on hand to rescue Super Owl and return him to his relieved owner! At the end of the day, several Super Hero teddies took part in a flying competition, and the actors and musicians sang the Super hero songs each child had created. All in all, a really creative, heroic day! Thank you, CLAPA!
