25 April 2024: Smile Train, the world's leading cleft charity, and the Cleft Lip and Palate Association (CLAPA), the UK’s national charity helping people with a cleft, announce new support to expand cleft care services across the United Kingdom, enabling further provision towards cleft awareness, education, and networking programmes.

Wendy Williams Mocks Cleft on Talk Show
The Cleft Lip and Palate Association (CLAPA) was shocked and sickened to see the recent clip of US talk show host Wendy Williams mocking the appearance of people born with a cleft lip earlier this week. We are calling on Wendy Williams to educate herself and apologise on her show in an effort to undoing some of the damage she has caused.

An Open Letter to Smile Train
We at the Cleft Lip & Palate Association (CLAPA) were disgusted by Smile Train’s recent ‘halloween’ themed direct mailings. These mailings, which suggest that babies with unrepaired clefts are in some way ‘scary’ are deeply hurtful and offensive.

Statement: Centralisation of Cleft Surgical Services in Scotland
On 7th September 2016, a debate was held in the Scottish Parliament concerning the decision by the NHS board chiefs on 21st June 2016 to approve the recommendation that cleft surgical services in Scotland be centralised. This recommendation was made by the National Specialist Services Committee following a long-term consultation which CLAPA has been heavily involved with.
