CLAPA are delighted to be running another Makaton Signing for Babies and Families Course with qualified Makaton trainer Virginia, thanks to funding from SmileTrain. CLAPA ask for a voluntary donation of £10 for this course, which includes a pocket book full of Makaton Signs that will be sent out to you before the course.
The sessions will run on Tuesday evenings, 7.30pm until roughly 9pm on the following dates:
16th June, 23rd June, 30th June & 7th July
Attendees need to attend all four sessions to complete the course, so please do check these dates, before signing up. We know illnesses and unavoidable clashes crop up, but we want to try and keep missed sessions to an absolute minimum, as we are expecting a high demand for these sessions and continuity will be key to maximise the effectiveness of the course and ensure that we can continue to run these in the future.
If you have any issues on the day or any questions before then, please get in touch with Lucy, [email protected].
This is an online video course and we will send the link to join the the day before each session, to the email address you use to register for this course.
Please check your spam/junk folders to ensure you don't miss the link.
The trainer will need to be able to see you performing the signs so will require you to have your video on for the sessions. We recommend using a tablet, laptop or computer when joining, rather than a mobile phone, so that the trainer can see your hand movements when practicing the signs.
If you have any access requirements, or if there's anything else we can do to make you feel more comfortable and welcome at the event, please let us know when you sign up.
Children are welcome to join but must be accompanied for the duration by a parent/carer. If you have children (who aren't participating in the discussion) around please don't feel you need to have a private quiet space, as we can mute your microphone unless you are speaking.
We ask that everyone is respectful of others’ feelings, views and opinions.
We’re here to listen, share our experiences, ask questions, gain information, and support each other so that everyone leaves the session having had a positive experience.
The format we follow for events ensures there is time to ask questions and share your own experiences and feelings.
Please allow everyone to take their turn and be mindful of sharing the space and time available so that everyone who wants to contribute can do so.
We recognise not everyone feels comfortable contributing to discussions and there is no pressure to do so.
If you would prefer, you can use the Zoom function to ‘raise your hand’ or use the chat box to share information.
You are also welcome to turn off your camera and microphone, and it’s okay if you need to attend to other duties (children, pets, etc.) during the event.
