Research Opportunity: School outcomes for children born with a cleft

Researchers at Newcastle University are looking to speak to people with lived experience of cleft palate (born with or without a cleft lip) to explore why children born with a cleft have poorer school outcomes than other children of the same age.

They are particularly interested in looking at how hearing and speech might impact school outcomes, and are keen to hear from adults and/or parents/carers who can provide input into this study.

Criteria for participation:

  • Adult (aged 18+) born with a cleft palate (with/without a cleft lip) or
  • Parent/carer of a child born with a cleft palate (with/without a cleft lip)

Time commitment:

  • Two online meetings per year for the next four years
  • Participants will be reimbursed for their time with vouchers after each session
